Engineering for a better world
GEA Westfalia Separator Group is a company of GEA Group Aktiengesellschaft, which is a leading systems provider worldwide for food processing and energy generation. GEA Westfalia Separator Group, founded in 1893, is technology leader and, backed up by more than 50 sales and service companies, offers cutting-edge mechanical separation technology by means of separators and decanters. The value-adding solutions for the food and beverage industry, renewable resources, the marine, oil & gas, energy sectors as well as chemicals, pharmaceuticals and environmental technology are setting standards in process efficiency and availability. The innovative strength of the company is based on the installation of products in over 3000 different procedures and processes
Our separation technology offers efficient options
Our specialists run over 3000 centrifugal processes and procedures. We provide solutions for the food industry, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, energy, shipping and environmental technology. Based on this, we are able to provide quick and comprehensive advice for your investment decision and assess how your task can be solved most effectively with the key mechanical separation technology.
The Business Line Energy of GEA Westfalia Separator Group supplies treatment systems for two mayor markets: diesel engine and gas turbine power plants. We provide handling and treatment systems for nearly all types of liquid fuels (heavy fuel oil, diesel oil, biofuel, crude oil, lube oil and oil-water-mixtures) currently being used for power generation.
Our range of products includes:
- Centrifugal disc stack separators
- Heat exchangers

Fuel oil treatment systems for gas turbine power plants
Power producers operating gas turbine power plants can save enormous costs by installing fuel oil treatment systems in their gas turbine power plants. Efficient treatment of diesel oil, heavy fuel oil and crude oil drastically reduces the gas turbine blades' susceptibility to corrosion. This means the time until the next overhaul is significantly extended.
Overhauling a gas turbine (including power outage) is very cost-intensive. Treatment systems from GEA Westfalia Separator Group therefore protect the core investment of the plant – the gas turbine. If stand-by liquid fuel is used, gas fired power plants also need a fuel oil treatment system from GEA Westfalia Separator Group.
- Fuel oil treatment and conditioning
- Lube oil treatment
- Separation of oil-water-mixtures
Centrifugal Separation Systems for Diesel Engines
The power station industry often uses diesel engines that burn heavy fuel oil, crude oil or diesel oil. By supplying separation systems specifically designed for continuous operation under roughest conditions, GEA Westfalia Separator Group provides for optimum power output and a long service life for these engines while taking into consideration the high environmental standards.
Self-cleaning separators with GEA Westfalia Separator unitrolplus systems automatically monitor the water level in the oil and the separation of the solid material "round the clock". As a result, optimum separation efficiency for different fuel and lube oils is ensured. Normally servicing is necessary only after 8000 to 16,000 operating hours.
Surveillance-free operation also reduces personnel costs tremendously. The accumulated oil sludge can be processed directly in the power station, thereby reducing the disposal costs considerably. All separation systems are available as modules. Other ready-to-connect systems are also available as compact units in combination with components such as GEA Westfalia Separator ViscoBoosterUnits (VBU) or plate heat exchangers (PHE).
